Global Connections and Issues

Part 1

Hello, for part one of our ongoing blog assignment I chose to contact the Reverend Arko-Nunoo from Ghana.  I chose him because the continent of Africa has always held a special place in my heart although I have little to no cultural ties there.  To the best of my understanding Ghana has had several political turmoils throughout the past years like other African countries and I would like to see how early childhood education is handled there.  I would really like to know if their early childhood issues match ours or are they different.  I, also, contacted Dina Aijanova from Kazakhstan to find out nearly the same issues.  As of yet, I have not heard back from either contact.

Part 2 Expanding resources
I chose the review the website for the National Childcare Resource and Referral Agency; primarily, because although I have heard of the CCR&R agencies for my entire career I have never really been sure of what they do.  They act as a resource for early childhood educators, providers, state agencies, and parents and attempt to inform them of current issues, legal decisions, policies, and proceedings in the early childhood arena.  According to their website, a pressing issue throughout the United States for families is the rising cost of child care.  When I begin to receive the newsletter I will include more in depth information.

  1. Joseph, I too contacted Reverend Arko-Nunoo earlier this week and did not hear back as well. I cannot wait to hear more from you about National Childcare Resource and Referral Agency. I chose Zero to Three so hopefully we can swap info.

  2. Joseph, I think this is a good assignment to complete however them getting back to us will be difficult. Even my contact I have here hasn't responded to my texts, maybe with the language barrier is why she hasn't answered my very simple question but I am little bummed that it's not turning out so well because I think we will get some valuable information from it. Your website sounds intriguing and I would love for you to share the newsletter with us.

  3. I am excited to keep up with your journey in exploring these connections and resources. Since we have not been classmates before, I took a peek at some of your previouse blog posts in an effort to get to know you a little. Your post on play caught my eye. That was one of my favorite assignments, and I enjoyed reading yours. I did a lot of pretend play as a child as well - using natural things like sticks and rocks, as well as other things like towels and sheets to create my play world. Your point about children's ability to play in this manner is true, unfortunately. I hope that our generation can shift the way we look at play for the future. I look forward to working with you and learning from you through the coming weeks.

  4. Out state level Child Care Resource and Referral Agency had announced a name change to "Child Care Aware" and they are very involved in the engagement of early care providers in the Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System that Washington named "Early Achievers." I wonder if this is a national initiative.
